More HP Shit – dv7000

HP DV7000My hp dv7 is less than 2yrs. old, and now has a neon green line, from
top to bottom. It’s about a little more than mid way of my screen. If
this is common for HP, my next computer wont be HP. But this will have
to do for now, no funds to replace it right now.

Vertical lines, rust, eabservr.exe troubles – dv8000

HP DV8000My DV8000t purchased in November of 2006, worked for three months, then
crashed with blue screen and never booted again. HP (depot repair)
replaced the hard drive under warranty, it took at least a week. Two
months later computer started crashing again due to the video memory
mapping problems, particularly in a dual head configuration, leading
to a motherboard replacement (again, a week or more shipping it to and
from the warranty repair shop). In mid- 2010 the screen started
developing the vertical lines, a few at first, then more and more.
They are all in the right part of the screen. Has anyone determined
what part is failing and has there been any progress in fixing the
issue?

A slow, colorful death – nc6400

I’ve had an hp nc6400 laptop for about three years now, because they
were the cheapest thing CERN Stores had on offer.  The first few
bright lines appeared at the end of year one, and I treated them by
protecting the flat signal cable running to the LCD with a few layers
of electrical tape.  That seemed to work, confirming the reports I saw
online that this cable is prone to shorting where it runs over a sharp
edge, within body of the laptop. Since then I I started to get a new
line every few weeks, including one really nice cluster about 2″ from
the right edge. They go away, restoring normal display function, with
some LCD acupressure.  Well, some of them do…

Advanced De Luxe HP Pavillon 9000 – dv9000

I think the model is called dv9094 ea  – purchased October 2006.

2007 My HP works fine for one year.  Then HP wants to install an
update…   And promptly crashes the Windows XP operating system. I
fixed this by reverting to a previous Win XP system restoration point.

2008  My advanced De Luxe HP Pavilion becomes very hot sometimes.
Trying to lift the HP from the desk by ribbons to make a better air
circulation to the fan inlet and outlet. Helps somewhat.

2009  Start up problems. Overheating problems. Battery problems.

2010  My HP Pavilion says goodbye with a black screen and a nauseating
stench of melted plastic.
The warranty gives me a new motherboard and two new LCD screen hinges.

2011  January The first vertical yellow line appears in the middle of
the screen.
Now my warranty has passed due date.
2011 February Now I have a one yellow, one purple and two blue lines.
2011 June About twenty lines
2011 August 98 colorful lines and still increasing by approximately
2-3 lines / week.
Can still read documents with white background.

2012 august estimated funeral for my advanced De Luxe HP Pavilion,
probably some 300 lines or so… and  a winner in the vertical line
contest score ?

M853f quad core purchased summer ’08 – M853f

While I just lost a HDD this spring (I’m sure it’s my fault due to so
much tinkering w/ settings and lapsing my security) I’ve had 0 issues!
Now, you may think I’m an HP “plant” but truth is I find this site
hilarious and sad. Sad that these situations have happened, hilarious
because its such a well done site and satirical (imho). Reminds me of
www.heylarryhughespleasestoptakingsomanybadshots.com.

I liked my Factory HP monitor so much that for dual screen purposes I
wanted to purchase a second, but it was too pricey to be reasonable/
justifiable to the, now, ex-wifey. So I purchased a “de-branded”
similar hp monitor (1 inch smaller, but tru 16×9 ratio’d) for half the
price from www.geeks.com and that was 22months  ago. Niether of these
monitors have had issues despite the various ways I’ve set them up
based on my needs. (XBox 360 to one w/ HDMI, VGA to the other, DVI,
etc. and multiple swaps between modes to multi-task)

I guess I’m fortunate to have minimal issues. I’ve upgraded my RAM
from 5gb to 8 almost w/ in the 1st couple of months I’ve had this.
Everything has been awesome. Even transitioning from Vista Home Prem.
to 7 Ultimate. I’ve added a blu-ray burner/ hd-dvd combo w/
lightscribe along w/ the one already factory installed. I use my
device to burn movies and record music (yes, I create original gems
for the masses…maybe). I’ve used virtual drives (possible what
killed my factory 750gb seagate hdd (R.I.P. and now replaced w/ a 1TB
joint).

IDK, this is just my story…and reading all of yours does scare me,
until I realized how long mines been chugging along! I bid you all
success, though, on your next pc purchases.

2 weeks, one blue line! Damn it. – g7-1167dx

Just have with this computer 2 weeks from Best Buy. In fact its the
second they gave me, the first one keep the screen white frozen, I
mean, I cant believe it, I am a very careful computer user, so never
close the lid, no overheat, perfect use condition, and one day using
GNU/Linux KDE3 desktop, the screen began blinking. I thought was because
of the 3D effects, and then, there was my new blue friend. My last
laptop was another HP, and the GPU ball grid fails so the screen
doesn’t work anymore, also very careful with it, promise never to buy
HP, but well my mistake.

Purple vertical dashed lines in the BIOS screen – zd8000

I think my ZD8000 was new in March of 2004, and since then I’ve used
it mainly as a desktop machine because it is so hot and noisy.
However, aside from not being able to have much in the way of memory
(only 2GB) it has worked up until recently when it began showing some
odd red dotted artifacts on the screen, which overlaid certain colors.
They show up suddenly and then lock up X-Windows, so that I have to
reboot the machine.

Going into the BIOS there are purple vertical dashed lines, about
every 2-char widths, like you’re looking at the BIOS setup through
prison bars. Definitely a problem with the video card itself.

When I bought the silly thing, I bought the laptop, the XB2000 base
and a 17″ monitor for almost $3K. I guess everyone does that at least
once in their lives. I won’t do that again though.

Its sort of frustrating, because the silly thing will boot and run
Linux in text-mode, but trying to load X, it just hangs. So it might
work as a noisy hot server with a really small hard old hard disk that
you can’t replace anymore.

Congrats to HP: Vertical lines in my monitor too – HCL with HP 2309m HDMI model

Suddenly there appears from nowhere a green line. It is not going
away. HP must be planning to increase the number of lines one by one
as days go by, as the one year warranty period gets over. Congrats for
the creative marketing to HP: So people can get new monitors, with
HIGH DEFINITION VERTICAL LINES. HP knows how to help people to spend.
As I understand, if warranty is for one year, it means the company
itself is not sure that the product will last not more than one year
or is not supposed to.
I hope to spread the word to be wary of the HP’s creative and
deceptive marketing.
