Right out the box this brand new hpPavillion was plagued with freezes, hangs, slowdowns & BSOD’s upon or, shortly after boot-up. It took me 5 days to clean up all the crapwares and useless, totally unnecessary, resource hogging background software dumped on it at the factory. HP tech support was worse than a joke or waste of time-they were totally clueless-if you could ever get them to even try to help. I had to use my ancient nonHP desktop to access the internet to find useful information!
While it was an ordeal just to get it to a useable state, I was quite pleased with it for a short time after I did. Then the vertical lines on the screen. First a thin red one on the far right, then a light blue one on the far left, then a really wide faded vertical area near the center. HP-support, fugeddaboutit. Its an oxymoron. I’d much rather be held up with gun. Its more honest. At least you both admit you’re being robbed.
I can still use it and, it performs ok even now, the battery has never lasted much over an hour even new, in spite of claims on the box, and the screen thing has been around so long I’m almost used to it by now except sometimes I can’t read some text in web pages.
But I will NEVER OWN ANOTHER HP PRODUCT – unless someone gives me one for free or something. Then I would trash it at the first sign of a problem. Caveat Emptor should be HP’s company vision or mission statement.
