Complaint Description – Posted 3/5/2010

I have a Hewlett Packard HP Pavilion zd8000 Laptop computer: Product #PD725AV#ABA Serial #CNF521OR6V, which I had to use the BBB to have the Vertical Lines on my screen repaired. HP did the repair, although just like the first time, once the warranty is expired the Lines begin to appear again. It takes time, but gets so bad it’s hard to view what is on the screen. There are tons of other customers that feel there should have been a recall on this product, which you can pull up on the web easy enough, not to mention right on the HP web site also. Just like the first time, HP will not help me unless I give them a bunch of money.
Complaint Summary

HP did the repair, although just like the first time, once the warranty is expired the Lines begin to appear again.
Resolution Sought

I would like HP to fix my zd8000 vertical line problem for free just like they did the last time. This is the last time I will even ask for this to be repaired once completed.

Hewlett Packard’s Case Manager spoke with Mr. Carlson on 3/2/10 to advise him the unit is end of life. There are no repair options available. Mr. Carlson mentioned HP repaired his screen once before. This free out of warranty repair was done May 2008 (valid for 90 days). There are no more free repair options available on Mr. Carlson’s unit that is over 1365 days out of warranty.

The zd8000 laptop is the worst product I have ever purchased and HP is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with for a product that is known to be bad on many levels. There should have been a recall on the verticle lines problem that has affected so many HP customers who have spent nearly $2000.00 on a product that goes bad right after the warranty expires. Do you hear what I said \"After the 90 day warranty expired the lines came right back to point that I can hardly see the images. The fact that you won't help in my last attempt to get just a little more life from your already junk laptop say's even more about what you think of your HP customers. Is this your final answer? You know I'm about to make a decision on what company I will deal with going forward.

Hewlett Packard's Executive Office does apologize Mr. Carlson still feels HP should offer another free repair for the lcd screen on his notebook that was manufactured in 2005. This notebook has no repair options available.

Vertical Lines – zd8000

I've had my zd8000 for four years, so have survived pretty well judging by the number of posts… but, from new I've had problems.  The first was a defective DVD drive.  Kaput from the box.  And this was coupled with a mysterious (I presumed software) problem.  The DVD drive was replaced under warranty, and one month later failed again.  During this time I was still experiencing very strange software issues; the computer couldn't remember its custom settings, and certain files were becoming corrupt.  I reloaded all the software several times, to no avail. After filing another warranty claim with HP, I was told that the warranty had expired.  The machine was only 6 months old.  What followed was a series of very frustrating (but polite) calls to India, where I was repeatedly told that the laptop was out of warranty.  It was at this point that I decided to fix the problem myself, running a full diagnostics on the hard-drive…  Bingo.  A stuffed hard-drive – again from new – and had not been picked up during quality control, or 2 visits to HP authorised repairers…  What's going on with that?
Anyway, I'll see if I can fix the screen myself, will keep recommending to people that they don't touch HPs, and will buy mysled a Toshiba next time round.  Cheers, George.

Vertical lines – zd8000

My laptop just started getting vertical lines. Took it to be repaired and was told it's not worth it that a year later it will just start up again with vertical lines. Was told that this was a lemon from the get go and HP knew and should have done recalls or replacements on all these laptops. I tell everyone I know not to buy a HP product so they don't get taken like I did. I use this laptop for artwork maybe 6 to 8 times a month no longer than 2 to 3 hours at a time. Never gets moved or in direct sunlight as they are claiming as to some of the problem. HP just won't take the blame when it's the heating problem that is to blame. Never again will I buy a HP product. Not getting one more dime from me. Pass it on.

I am very relieved to know I am not the only 1.  I bought mine about 2 years ago and have more lines than I can count (well over 100) . Not to mention it runs very hot on the keyboard. The power supply adapters SUCK TOO!!! I've gone thru 1 now my replacement is shot  too. I bought it at circuit city they replaced the ac adapter for free thru their extended warranty, but they sent a cheaper version that cracked at where the screws connect after 2 weeks. Being so fed up with it, I duct-taped it. It did last about 6 months but now it died last night too.
So I read from here HP doesn't want to know anything, so I'm screwed.

HP SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm building my next desk top.

Wow, this seems the very same.  I have the same vertical line and battery problems.  I 've also been told $350 – 400 to fix.  I guess we all have to spread the word damning HP. Clearly these are defects and unfortunately don't happen usually until out of warranty.  My computer shuts down with a low battery warninig after about 15 minutes, the power meter shows 3% [power remaining but the battery is actually 80% and I can restart it on battery and it may last an hour.  I would really like a solution to the vertical lines but it really doesn't seem worth $300 if other problems may shorten the life.

I do have the same problem with my laptop but in my case its even worse, I have to use an external monitor to be able to use my laptop….The left side of the monitor is full of lines that it had created a big white verical rectagle making it impossible to work with, Its clear to me that it is not the video card that is failing but the monitor, besides that the paint on the front grill has aso come off and the grill is beginning to rust, pls let me know if HP is going to place a factory recall on this computer. I have purchased this Laptop for $2,300

Pls hellllp
