I have just found this website about the vertical lines and thought i was the only dumb bunny suffering from this affliction. I have 1/3 of the entire screen blanked out due to the problem and i am discusted by it. I thought i loved my HP laptop but shortly I will buy a Dell (i have had 3 Dell Desktops over the past 10 years and all good) .
I currently have my spare monitor plugged into the laptop to do work but this is totally unsatisfactory. I will sign any petition to disgrace HP on this issue, they suck.

I experienced these vertical lines. Defective part was replaced and delivered back to my house within 7 days.
Customer service is obviously better in Europe!

Dec 2007 - Purchased
July 2008 - Webcam fails
August 2008 - Overheats, Wireless fails
September 2008 - Battery wont hold a charge
September 2009 - Vertical lines on the display.
Tomorrow - Buying a Dell.
