My laptop just started getting vertical lines. Took it to be repaired and was told it's not worth it that a year later it will just start up again with vertical lines. Was told that this was a lemon from the get go and HP knew and should have done recalls or replacements on all these laptops. I tell everyone I know not to buy a HP product so they don't get taken like I did. I use this laptop for artwork maybe 6 to 8 times a month no longer than 2 to 3 hours at a time. Never gets moved or in direct sunlight as they are claiming as to some of the problem. HP just won't take the blame when it's the heating problem that is to blame. Never again will I buy a HP product. Not getting one more dime from me. Pass it on.

Well my story is the same as everybody else's.
Bought my HP ZD8000 in 2005. Within 14 months the first line appeared. Then a second etc etc.
After about six lines appeared I contacted HP customer service. They informed me the warranty was out of date and therefore not their problem. They would fix it but at my own expense.
So I left it at that.
Over the next year or so the lines just kept coming until I could only use 2/3 of my screen. Then without warning the whole screen went kind of white. You could make things out but it was not usable. so again i contacted HP and the same response as before was received.
So then I was in a situation where I had my old desktop minitor plugged into my laptop. Great, eh?
This went on for another year. Then one day I thought this is ridiculous.
I contacted consumer direct and they told the law stats that an item purchased should be 'durable and fit for purpose'. and this is for six years after the item is purchased. He told me to gather as much evidence together as I could, white to HP and demand they do something about it.
I did this using print offs from all the forums, including this one, regarding this problem.
No response. By now I had my teeth into this. So I decided to take them to court.
I made a claim at the small claims court in the UK. This cost me £60.
After a week I had a letter from HP solicitor. It basically said see you in court.
I'm not going to go into great detail but will give you a list of what happened.
1. HP said they wanted an independent body to inspect the unit.
2. I agreed .
3. They could not find an independent body and would therefore like to inspect the unit themselves.
4. I agreed.
5. The judge ordered a pre hearing meeting with me and HP's team to discuss whether expert opinion was needed..
6. We went to the court. HP's solicitor told the judge that HP were prepared to replace the screen 'as a gesture of good will'
7. I agreed to this on the condition that the new screen would come with a 3 year warranty. I said I would even pay for the extended warranty. The solicitor said he would put this idea to HP.
8. Three weeks later I had a letter for the solicitor offering me a replacement laptop 'as a gesture of good will'.
9. I checked out the model offered. Piece of rubbish compared to my ZD. I declined the offer stating several things: mainly my ZD had a true bright screen.
10. A week or so later another letter arrived. This time the 'gesture of good will' was a brand new HP DV&-1214EA laptop.

Hey there,
My sister uses an HP Pavillion dv6000 CTO PC. Of the many issues with the computer, one of the biggest ones seems to be that there is a line coming through the middle of the screen. Instead of vertical, the line on her computer is horizontal.
I had sent this computer in for her twice before to HP and they had replaced the screen or whatever had been wrong with it. Of course, the problem did not fail to come up again. After the warranty on the machine had expired, I had taken the computer to a store in New Jersey known as Micro Center. There, they had diagnosed the computer and had told me that the display had gone bad, and went ahead and fixed it, through HP.
Now, about a year (maybe a little more since the computer had been fixed last) the line has still not failed to show up again. Is there any action that can be taken against this?
