My husband's HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop had the exact same things happen to it that are described in this forum: suck battery (and amusingly not one of the batteries being replaced by HP) and the stripes down the screen. I am very interested in if there is an actual class action lawsuit to correct the screen issues. We, like all of the others, were told it would cost hundreds of dollars to replace an obvious defect in the design.

Hi guys,
I was very happy when I had purchased this machine about 3 years ago in early 2006. It was a gem of a machine until last year when I started encountering all sorts of problems. To make matters worse I have all the problems which can drive you nuts.
First it started with over heating, it apparently shuts off after every 10 minutes, I solved that finally by ordering xpad for laptops which is really cool. ($25)
Also when I remove the pad from beneath the laptop shuts off.
Secondly I started problem with the battery, first of all it didn't even give a backup for even 1 hour or so, with just few programs running.
Now I have the problem with the vertical line everyone is mentioning about. I have no idea what that is, even after upgrading the machine to a 2GB ram, with 2.80 GHZ speed it is as slow as a turtle ?
Now I have another problem with the audio, the audio seems to cut off every now and then, I tried to reinstall drivers from the HP cd, also from the website, I cannot get it to work.
Above all whats most frustrating is the damn keyboard, it misses the characters so often
I recommend to sue HP for this model of the laptop which I think is worst
I recommend LENOVO to everyone , I have mine for 1 year without any problems
Thanks
Please let me know if you have any suggestions to help me make my laptop better
I need good audio I need to remove vertical line from screen I need a good battery backup and also a working keyboard
Thanks in advance
Deno

Bought my computer brand new, stocked it up with a x600 256 mb vid card over the 128mb. Spent about $1500 on it to have it turn into a giant paper weight within months.
Within the first 3 months of use the computer burned out two batteries and wouldn't charge them. The computer started to run so hot it would shut itself down. On top of that its performance dropped down sharply. Games ran slower, every application took longer to turn on, the keyboard itself had response issues. You could hit the same key 3-4 times before it registered.
Finally the gpu went poof. I can start the machine up in safe mode or VGA mode, but as soon as I change any video settings the computer screen turns black yet you can still hear windows start up.
I'm lucky enought to have had my computer last me til 2009, but after spending $1400 on a computer that only worked well for its first 3 months and then became unreliable (only worked for 30 minutes at times) is pure garbage. Had I have known this I would have purchased a computer for $700 that would have ran just fine and lasted much longer.
Thanks HP, I gave you $1400, and you pinched a load of on me. You owe us all a replacement computer, money back, or at the very least free replacements with better parts.
